While you can learn to fly from any age, you cannot go solo before you are 15. As a result we don’t recommend that you conduct many lessons before the age of 14.

Your medical health should be of the equivalent to hold a drivers licence. If you are over the age of 75 or have other certain medical conditions you may require a letter from your GP.

Of course there is some aviation theory to learn. But one benefit of starting with a Recreational Pilot Certificate is the theory element is not as intense as other pilot licences.

We promote self study with the Bob Tait BAK text books. These books are extremely well written, presenting complex concepts in a easy to understand format. This text book complements the pre flight briefs and flight training extremely well.

We always have stock of all the text books you need.

If you are after the class room environment for learning theory, we can definitely help you hit the books. Also keep an eye out for our theory sessions that we run throughout the year.

20 hours of total flying time with at least:

• 15 hours with an Instructor.
• 5 hours solo.

Although the minimum is 20hrs, this training is based on competency. A recreational Pilot Certificate will be issued once student reaches a competent standard, passed theory exams and a flight test.

For most students, this is an average of 25 – 30 hours of flight time to reach the required standard.

To achieve your Recreational Pilot Certificate there are 3 theory exams:

• Pre-Solo Air Legislation
• Radio
• Air Legislation
• Basic Aeronautical Knowledge

These multiple choice exams are conducted in house.

None at all!

We do recommend giving a trial flight a go. It is the cheapest half hour of flying you will ever do at $115, plus it counts as flight training time in your pilots log book.

Our recommendation is at once as week.

This allows you to make steady progress without having to re-learn skills each time you jump in the aircraft.

At least once a fortnight.

Our minimum recommendation is once a fortnight so you don’t have to repeat any lessons and have refresher lessons. We recommend this to ensure you have thorough training and to keep your expenses as low as possible.

Holidays

Don’t stress if you are going to have time away from your flight training. We just recommend to not leave to many big gaps in your training schedule.

A Trial Flight is a 30 minute hands on experience where you get a taste of what it is like to fly a Light Sports Aircraft. The hour long expereince includes a pre and post flight brief.

For $115 it’s the cheaper half hour of flying you will ever do. Even better it counts as training hours in your pilot log book.
